A seismically active region.

Nepal is a seismically active region where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates clash. Due to tectonic activity in the Himalayas, the country often experiences earthquakes.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred 93 kilometers northwest of Lobuche, near the Nepal-Tibet border. Lobuche, situated near the Khumbu Glacier, lies approximately 150 kilometers east of Kathmandu and 8.5 kilometers southwest of Everest Base Camp.

The seismic activity has elevated concerns in the region, which is no stranger to devastating earthquakes. Officials in Nepal and the affected parts of India closely monitor the situation.
