While Shah Rukh Khan’s charisma lit up the Met’s blue carpet at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, social media is “not impressed” and utterly “disappointed” with the choice of ensemble.
Shah Rukh Khan’s highly anticipated debut at the Met Gala 2025 was nothing short of cinematic, but not everyone in the fashion jury is pleased. The Bollywood megastar, known for his timeless charm and screen presence, made a regal appearance in a custom black ensemble by Sabyasachi, complete with layered jewelry and a striking oversized ‘K’ pendant, a symbol of his iconic title, “King Khan”.

Dressed in a sharply tailored black blazer and trousers, Shah Rukh radiated power and poise. The look was elevated with chunky rings, a cane in hand, and multiple layered necklaces, including the eye-grabbing golden ‘K’ centrepiece.
Styled by Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, the look aimed to mix regal Indian craftsmanship with global glamor while embracing this year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”. But as images and videos of the actor surfaced online, fans started weighing in, and the reactions were far from what we expected.

Internet reactions: Crowned or joked?
Whereas many appreciated the actor’s commanding presence, others expected a more groundbreaking style moment for his Met Gala debut. A section of Indian fans didn’t hold back from vocalizing their disappointment, with comments that have now gone viral for their brutal honesty and humour.
One fan quipped, “Wow, designer had one job !! It’s giving Dolly Chaiwala.”

Another commented, “Sabyasachi, you did him bad,” while one wrote, “It is giving a Punjabi guy at a West Delhi wedding.”
A disappointed fan joked, “Wake up till 3:30 to see this 😀”
Others compared the look to iconic pop culture figures, with one even writing, “Sorry but Bappi Lahiri served more,” and another asking, “Is he wearing Marks and Spencer?”
While some trolled the look, others stood firm in Shah Rukh’s corner. One fan said, “Charming and hot and handsome, but I think Sabyasachi could’ve done much better. Should’ve fit him for more royalty, fit him in a king’s attire. He’s hot anyway, his aura shines.”
Another netizen put it simply, “His personality is saving the clothes here quite literally.”
