The latest case is of 63-year-old Lalit Bafna. He is originally from Sunel village of Jhalawar, Rajasthan.

Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Digital fraud cases are showing no signs of stopping. Despite continuous warnings through social media, people are becoming victims of fraudsters. The latest case is of 63-year-old Lalit Bafna, who is a resident of Sunail village in Jhalawar district of Rajasthan. He is the manager at Rishabhdev Chhaganaram Pedhi located in Kharakuan. Their son Aman (23) works in a hotel in Indore.

In the incident, a thug posing as a DSP threatened Lalit Bafna and defrauded him of Rs 10,000. After transferring the money, when Lalit called his son Aman, he came to know that the person who was talking to him posing as DSP was an impostor. Lalit told in his complaint to the Kharakuan police that on Friday afternoon at 1:05 pm, he had received a video call from the number 7380882730.

Only a voice was coming in the call. The caller said, “I am DSP calling from Indore, your son has been arrested in a gang rape case. If you want to save him, we are sending you an account number, transfer Rs 50,000 into it.” Lalit told the police that he heard a voice similar to his son’s voice in the call, due to which the thug trapped him and threatened him not to tell anyone about this matter.

Lalit borrowed Rs 10,000 from a friend and transferred it to the account that the swindler had told him about. The swindler kept him busy on video call for two hours. After this Lalit called his son Aman and told him the entire incident. Aman angrily said that he had been working in the hotel since morning and had nothing to do with any crime. Then father and son understood that the person posing as DSP was a swindler.

Police said Lalit’s biggest mistake was that he continued the video call. Had he disconnected the call and contacted his son directly, he could have avoided this fraud.
