Maharashtra Politics Update: Raj and Uddhav Thackeray Signal Possible Alliance Over Marathi Identity Amid Hindi Imposition Row

Mumbai – In a significant political development ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray have hinted at a possible alliance for the greater good of Maharashtra and Marathi identity, amidst the ongoing debate over the imposition of Hindi.

During a candid conversation with veteran actor Mahesh Manjrekar in a recent podcast, Raj Thackeray emphasized that personal differences with his cousin Uddhav are minor compared to the larger issues facing Maharashtra. He stressed the importance of Marathi unity across political lines, stating, “The welfare of Maharashtra is my top priority. I can set aside smaller issues to work with Uddhav—if he is willing to do the same.”

Responding to Raj’s remarks, Uddhav Thackeray expressed openness to reconciliation, highlighting the need for a clear vision and consistency in standing against the BJP. “I am ready to collaborate for Maharashtra and the Marathi language, but Raj must publicly distance himself from anti-Maharashtra elements. He should take an oath before Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,” Uddhav asserted.

Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Sanjay Raut acknowledged Raj’s intent, pointing out Uddhav’s concerns about aligning with past adversaries. The strained relationship between the Thackeray cousins dates back to 2006 when Raj exited Shiv Sena to form MNS due to leadership disputes.

This renewed dialogue between the two leaders comes at a crucial time, as Raj Thackeray has recently indicated support for the ruling BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, despite MNS not securing recent electoral victories. However, the party retains a strong presence and influence in Maharashtra’s political landscape.

A recent public interaction between Raj and Uddhav at a family wedding has further fueled speculation about a Thackeray reunion. Both leaders now appear more open than ever to resolving differences for the benefit of the Marathi community and state development.

As discussions of a possible Raj-Uddhav alliance gain momentum, this political shift could reshape Maharashtra’s electoral dynamics and set the tone for regional unity in the face of national linguistic and ideological debates.
