The bridge collapsed on the Indrayani River, causing chaos among tourists
Pune, June 15: An old bridge suddenly collapsed on the Indrayani river on Sunday in the Kundmala area near Talegaon Dabhade in the Maval tehsil of Pune district of Maharashtra. About 25-30 people present on the bridge at the time of the accident are feared to have fallen into the river. So far, 2 deaths have been confirmed, while many people are still missing. This place is popular for weekend tourists, so there was a huge crowd at the time of the accident.
Chief Minister Fadnavis’s quick response and announcement of compensation
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed deep condolences over the accident and immediately announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh. This amount will be given to the families of those who lost their loved ones in this tragic accident. Along with this, the state government will bear the cost of the treatment of the injured.
A statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said:
“Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis has announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in the bridge accident on the Indrayani river near Talegaon in Pune district. In addition, the injured will be treated free of cost by the government.”
Fadnavis also informed that the rescue operation is going on in full force and the state administration is fully active on the spot.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently on his three-nation tour and is in Cyprus, spoke to Chief Minister Fadnavis over the phone as soon as he came to know about the accident and expressed deep grief over the incident. Fadnavis said, “Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi called me after reaching Cyprus and inquired about the bridge accident in Pune district. He expressed deep condolences on the incident and assured all possible help from the central government.”
Rescue work is being hampered due to heavy rain
Immediately after the accident, the local police, the NDRF team, the fire department, and villagers started the rescue operation together. But due to heavy rains in the Maval area for the last two days, the water level of the river has increased considerably, which is causing difficulty in relief work.
According to the fire department, so far, 18-20 ambulances, rescue vans, and fire tender boats have been sent to the spot. Teams of divers are searching for the missing people in the water, while the injured are being sent to the hospital for immediate treatment.
