Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the BJP and the Central Government during a discussion on ’75 years of glorious journey of Constitution’. He questioned the government’s stand on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s views on the Constitution.
New Delhi, Dec 14: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, during a discussion, referred to Savarkar’s writings and alleged that the Hindutva ideologue believed that there was “nothing Indian” in the Indian Constitution and wanted to make Manusmriti the law of the country.
Quoting Savarkar, Rahul Gandhi said, “The worst thing about the Indian Constitution is that there is nothing Indian in it. Manusmriti is the most revered text for our Hindu nation after the Vedas… This book has guided the spiritual and divine journey of our nation for centuries.”

Amid loud applause from the opposition benches, Rahul Gandhi questioned the BJP, “Do you support these words of your leader? Because when you talk of protecting the Constitution in Parliament, you are mocking Savarkar.”
Describing the Indian Constitution as the “document of Mother India“, he said it was inspired by BR Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and ancient traditions like Shiva and Kabir. Rahul contrasted this with the BJP’s alleged neglect of constitutional values.

Rahul Gandhi, referring to the Mahabharata, compared the BJP to Dronacharya and alleged that the party was “cheating” the youth of India, just like Dronacharya had asked Eklavya for his thumb.
Rahul also raised the farmers’ movement and the Hathras case in the discussion. He accused the central government of doing injustice to the farmers. When he started speaking on topics other than the Constitution, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla advised him to stick to the topic of discussion.
Referring to the Hathras case, Rahul Gandhi said that he recently met the victim’s family, who are still locked in the house, while the accused are roaming freely. He said, “Maybe it is written in your Manusmriti, but it is not in our Constitution. If the government does not rehabilitate the family, we (INDIA alliance) will ensure it.”
Rahul Gandhi reiterated the INDIA alliance’s resolve to conduct a caste census and break the 50% reservation limit. He said, “Economic equality has ended in India, and so our next step will be caste census. We will show how you cheated the workers and farmers. After this, a new government will come and break the wall of 50% reservation. Do whatever you want.”
