The round of allegations and counter-allegations continues between BJP and Congress regarding Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections. Political parties are campaigning vigorously in both the states and the war of words between the party leaders has intensified. At the same time, in this war of words, BJP and Congress had complained to the Election Commission about each other regarding objectionable statements. On this, the Election Commission has sought a reply from the national presidents of both the parties. BJP President JP Nadda has been written a letter and asked for a reply on the complaint made by the Congress. While Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has also been asked to respond to the complaint made by the BJP.
The Election Commission has sought a formal reply from both the party presidents by 1 pm on November 18. Along with this, they have been reminded of the earlier consultation of the Election Commission issued on May 22, 2024 during the Lok Sabha elections. In this, it was asked to keep control on star campaigners and leaders. So that public decorum is not violated and the model code of conduct can be followed strictly during the election campaign.
Congress had made these allegations
On November 14, the Congress had filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing them of making false, divisive, malicious and reprehensible statements during the election campaign. The opposition party had demanded the Commission to ban PM Modi and Shah from any election-related activity for the remaining election campaign in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, and to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. Congress had sought directions to register criminal cases against all the leaders involved in BJP who made hate speeches during the election campaign. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh had alleged that on November 8, PM Modi made several false, malicious and reprehensible statements targeting Congress and its allies during election rallies in Nashik and Dhule in Maharashtra. In his statements, he accused prominent Congress leaders and former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
BJP had complained
BJP had complained against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on November 11. BJP had said that Rahul Gandhi tried to pit the states against each other. He tore apart the Constitution and lied that BJP is going to destroy the Constitution. This is a lie. We have told the Commission that this should be stopped. We also told the Commission that Rahul Gandhi is used to doing this and even after warnings and notices, he is not refraining from doing so. Meghwal said that we have demanded to register an FIR against Rahul Gandhi under section 353 of BNS.
