A vehicle fire has halted traffic in both directions on the M5 in Somerset. All lanes between Junction 22 (Burnham-on-Sea) and Junction 23 (Puriton) have been closed since around 9:35 am BST today.

National Highways South West reports that emergency services and traffic officers are on-site to manage the situation. Drivers are experiencing significant delays, with congestion stretching approximately four miles in both directions and wait times of up to 45 minutes.

Please plan alternative routes and allow extra time for your journey.
