Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 has started The grand gathering of devotees, held once every 12 years, sees people visiting the famous Triveni Sangam from all over the world. It is believed that a dip in the waters at the confluence of rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the ‘mythical’ Saraswati, acquits a person of his or her sins.
Maha Kumbh Mela 2025, the world’s largest religious gathering kicked off in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Monday (January 13). Maha Kumbh Mela will conclude on February 26. It is expected that 45 crore people will attend the Maha Kumbh and take a holy dip in the confluence of rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the ‘mystical’ Saraswati. The crowds were seen gathering on Monday for the ‘Shahi Snan’ on the auspicious Paush Purnima.
What is special about Maha Kumbh Mela 2025?
Maha Kumbh Fair is held once every 12 years. This in itself underlines its significance. But the Maha Kumbh Mela is being held at a particular, auspicious astronomical alignment in the sky which occurs once every 144 years.

This time, many new experiences have been created for the devotees. This includes Maa Saraswati Temple, Bada Hanuman Mandir, Maharishi Vyas Corridor, Nishadraj, and Lord Ram temple.
What government is doing to manage the crowd
In Prayagraj this time, 4000 hectares of land near the Triveni Sangam has been transformed into a temporary city. About 1,50,000 tents have been constructed for the visitors, Three thousand kitchens are up and running to take care of food preparation of the devotees.
One lakh forty-five thousand restrooms have been constructed, as have 99 parking lots.
Authorities are installing 450000 new electricity connections as the Maha Kumbh Mela is expected to use up power used by 100,000 urban apartments consume in a month.
The railways are running 98 special trains. This train will make 3300 trips. These trains are in addition to the regular trains that travel to and from Allahabad.
Reuters cited the Uttar Pradesh police chief who said that about 40,000 police personnel along with cybercrime experts have set up surveillance systems using artificial intelligence (AI).
