Massive fire at ED office in South Mumbai: Level-2 fire breaks out in Kaiser-e-Hind building

Mumbai: A massive fire broke out at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in the Kaiser-e-Hind building in Ballard Estate in South Mumbai in the early hours of Sunday. Fortunately, there were no casualties in this accident.

According to officials, the fire brigade received information about the fire at 2:31 am. This multi-storey building is located on Karimbhoy Road near the Grand Hotel. As soon as the information was received, the fire brigade and rescue teams rushed to the spot. At around 3:30 pm, the fire was declared level 2, which indicates a major fire.

The fire brigade said that the fire was limited to the fourth floor of the five-storey building. Eight fire engines, six jumbo water tankers, an aerial ladder, a breathing apparatus van, a rescue van, a quick response vehicle, and an ambulance were deployed to douse the fire. At present, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Another incident in Andheri West:
A fire broke out in the Brooklyn Residential Building in Lokhandwala, Andheri West,
in the wee hours of Saturday, killing a woman and her two pet dogs. This fire too broke out at 2:30 am and was declared a level-1 fire at 3:13 am.

Cases of fire:
According to fire brigade officials, the fire was mainly confined to flat number 104 on the first floor, burning and damaging electrical wiring, household items, documents, furniture,
and clothes. The Mumbai Fire Brigade brought the fire under control within three hours, but the incident had serious consequences.

Injuries and casualties in the incident:
Seven people were affected due to smoke inhalation. Of these, five were admitted to Kokilaben Hospital, one to Cooper Hospital, and one to a trauma centre.

The injured included Abhina Kartik Sanjanwalia, 34, a resident of the flat, who was in a critical condition due to smoke suffocation and died before she could be reached at Kokilaben Hospital. According to locals, she was sleeping at the time of the incident and could not come out in time. Her two pet dogs also died in the accident.

The injured also include two young children — 10-day-old Pradyuman and three-year-old Rihaan Gupta. Both have been admitted to the ICU of Kokilaben Hospital due to respiratory problems. The other affected include Aparna Gupta (41), Daya Gupta (21), Kartik Sanjanwalia (40), and Polam Gupta (40). Polam Gupta was discharged from the hospital after first aid, while the others have been kept under observation.
