Bandra Railway Station Stampede: People from all over the country are heading towards their homes for Diwali and Chhath Puja. Some had made reservations months ago, while some are trying to reach their homes somehow without tickets. Meanwhile, a stampede broke out at Bandra railway station in Mumbai, Maharashtra. 9 passengers were injured in this stampede, out of which the condition of 2 people is said to be critical.

According to BMC, the crowd of people who came to travel by train number 22921 from Bandra to Gorakhpur was so huge that a stampede broke out. The accident took place on platform number 1 of the station. The passengers injured in the stampede have been admitted to Baba Hospital in Bandra. Out of 9 passengers, 7 are said to be stable, while 2 are in critical condition.

Allegation of poor platform arrangements

Railway administration has been accused of a lack of security arrangements at the station. There are some RPF jawans on the platform, who request people to stand in a queue. However, no queue is seen when the train arrives. People start climbing over each other to enter the train coach. People were competing to enter the coach themselves by pulling each other back.

After the stampede, it was seen that even people’s clothes were torn. Someone’s shirt was torn, someone’s pants. All the belongings were found scattered. There is blood at many places on the platform, from which it can be guessed that people have suffered serious injuries in the stampede.

CRPO of Western Railway gave information

CRPO of Western Railway Vineet Abhishek said that train number 22921 runs from Mumbai to Gorakhpur. All the coaches of this train are general i.e. unreserved. The train was supposed to depart at 5:15, but during the festival season, it was decided to bring the train to the platform 2-3 hours earlier so that people could board it comfortably. However, people started boarding the train even before it reached the platform. The train was in running condition when people started boarding it, due to which this accident happened.

CRPO Vineet Abhishek also said that many more holiday special trains have been run this time compared to last year. 87 trains are running from Mumbai alone to different stations across the country.
