America’s newly elected President Donald Trump has started making appointments to important posts in his government.
Trump has appointed Vivek Ramaswami of Indian origin along with X, Tesla and SpaceX owner Elon Musk as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Announcing this, Trump has called Elon Musk ‘Great Elon Musk’ and Vivek Ramaswami a ‘patriot American’.
On receiving this responsibility, Vivek Ramaswami has written – We are not going to behave softly.
That is, Vivek Ramaswami has indicated that he will implement the responsibility he has been given with aggression and this is what Trump wants.
Trump has given Vivek the same responsibility that he has been advocating. Like Vivek Ramaswami has been advocating the closure of many government departments and agencies.
Along with Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswami will work on restructuring federal agencies besides stopping bureaucracy, irrelevant rules and regulations and unnecessary expenditure in the government.
Trump has called it necessary for the ‘Save America’ campaign.
Along with this, some other important appointments have been approved by Trump.
Florida MP Michael Waltz will become the National Security Advisor of America and Senator Marco Rubio can be made the Foreign Minister.
50-year-old Waltz is a former military officer and has been a supporter of Trump for a long time. He has been re-elected to the US Congress. Senate approval will not be required for the appointment of National Security Advisor Waltz.
Who is Vivek Ramaswami?
Vivek Ramaswami was in the race for the presidential candidate for the Republican Party. But he did not succeed.
Woke book author, millionaire, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswami says he wants to start a cultural movement for a new American dream and believes that diversity is meaningless if we don’t have something bigger to bring us together.
39-year-old Ramaswami was born in Ohio. He studied at Harvard and Yale and earned millions in the field of biotechnology. After this, he formed an asset management firm.
He founded the biotech company Roivant Sciences, which is now worth seven billion dollars.
He is also the co-founder of an investment firm. According to Forbes, Vivek Ramaswami’s total wealth is $630 million.
Vivek is married to Apoorva and she is a throat surgeon and assistant professor at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Vivek lives in Columbus with his family. He has two sons.
Vivek Ramaswami was born to NRI parents.
According to a report in ‘Hindustan Times’, his family moved to America from Kerala.
His father V Ganapathi Ramaswami worked as an engineer after graduating from the National Institute of Calicut. His mother worked as a psychiatrist in the US.
At the Iowa State Fair in 2023, Vivek said that his mother had taken American citizenship while his father still had an Indian passport.
Ramaswamy was earlier in the race for the Republican Party’s presidential candidate. But he quit his campaign after coming fourth in the Iowa caucus.
After this, when he went to Atlanta with Trump for his first presidential debate, there were reports that he could become the Republican Party’s vice-presidential candidate.
Earlier there were also reports that if Trump wins the presidential election, Vivek Ramaswami could be made the Homeland Security Minister.
Vivek Ramaswami’s agenda
Vivek Ramaswami is also known for his special agendas. Such as ending the war between Ukraine and Russia, keeping children away from social media, and also planning to shut down federal departments.
They advocate shutting down the Department of Education, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Domestic Revenue Service, and FBI.
Vivek Ramaswami wants the H-1B visa program to end. This program is used by employers to recruit foreign skilled workers in the US. If it ends, Indians will also suffer.
Ramaswamy had criticized social media platforms and their products, calling them “addictive”. Recently, he even called TikTok “digital fentanyl”.
He had said, “I am worried about the impact it will have on 12-13-year-old children who use them.”
In the second phase of the Republican debate, he talked about banning the use of social media by children so that “the mental health of the country can be improved”.
But Republican rivals criticized Ramaswami because he had joined TikTok just a few days earlier.
Ramaswami believes that Russia should make some big concessions to end the Russia-Ukraine war peacefully.
He told ACB News in June that there should be an agreement like the Korean War in which both sides are given legitimacy over the areas under their control.
Vivek’s opinion on China-Russia alliance
He believes that the biggest threat to the US military is the permanent assurance that Ukraine not joining the China-Russia alliance and NATO. But in return, Russia will have to withdraw from its alliance and military agreement with China.
According to him, giving more weapons to Ukraine against Russia is like pushing Russia into the hands of China.
Ramaswamy says that the minimum age for voting should be increased to 25 years.
He proposes that people up to 18 years of age should get the right to vote only if they fulfill the condition of “national service requirements”. That is, either they have helped in the emergency or have served six months in the army.
He also said that those 18-year-olds who pass the US citizenship test should be given the right to vote.
But the problem is that increasing the voting age means a change in the Constitution, that is, there should be a two-thirds majority in Congress.
Ramaswamy also plans to close down many federal departments. Such as the Department of Education, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Domestic Revenue Service FBI, etc.
He told NBC News, “In most cases, these agencies have become redundant and are being replaced by many other departments.”
He suggested a reorganization in which the FBI’s funding is divided between the Secret Service, Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, and Defense Intelligence Agency.
Former President Trump, who is in the race for Republican candidates, has been accusing the FBI of taking action against him out of vindictiveness.
A Fox News poll in June revealed that trust in the FBI among Republicans has decreased by about 20 percent.
