When the customer received the order, the shawarma was packed in a box bearing the Indian Super League (ISL) team Bengaluru FC. The customer complained on X (formerly Twitter) asking why he was paying extra for the Bengaluru FC team advertisement.
Mumbai: In a light-hearted interaction, a Zomato customer complained about an unexpected issue. A customer who ordered shawarma from a famous Bengaluru restaurant questioned the ₹12 charge for packaging. But when he received the order, the food was packed in a box bearing Bengaluru FC advertisement.
The incident came to light when the customer ordered shawarma from Empire restaurant via Zomato and paid ₹12 as a packaging charge. But on receiving the order, he noticed that the food was packed in a box bearing Bengaluru FC advertisement. He wrote on X, “Hi @zomatocare, I ordered shawarma from Empire Restaurant, Bengaluru, and paid ₹12 packaging charge. But got the package wrapped in @bengalurufc advertisement. Why do I have to pay for their advertisement? How many orders are sent in boxes that customers have paid for?”
This tweet caught the attention of Bengaluru FC goalkeeper and Indian football team captain, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. He jokingly replied, “GPay number de do bhai – waapis karta hun ₹12.”
This witty reply from Sandhu made fans laugh and started a discussion on social media. While the customer’s complaint was questioning the transparency of packaging charges, Sandhu’s wit turned the matter into a light-hearted one.
Zomato has yet to respond to this, but the post received several reactions from internet users. One user said, “Charge ₹120, but without advertisement.” Another user asked Gurpreet to gift him a signed jersey.
Another user offered the complainant to delete the tweet and take ₹12. He wrote, “Brother give me your number, and I will transfer ₹12. Delete this tweet.”
