In a tragic incident, a 17-year-old girl from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, lost her life after a firecracker burst prematurely, causing her silk dress to catch fire.
The unfortunate event occurred outside her home in the Kanadiya locality while she was lighting firecrackers on a Thursday night.
The girl, identified as Zahida, was burning a flower pot firecracker when it suddenly erupted. She was with her 11-year-old brother at the time of the incident. The highly flammable nature of her silk dress caused it to catch fire and adhere to her body, resulting in severe burns to her upper half.
Her family promptly rushed her to Mayur Hospital, where she was later transferred to Choithram Hospital for specialized treatment. Despite the doctors’ efforts over three days, she tragically passed away on Sunday evening due to the severity of her injuries.
