Mumbai: With Holi, Dhulivandan, and Rang Panchami celebrations approaching, the Mumbai Police has announced strict restrictions to ensure public safety and maintain peace in the city.
The order, issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Akbar Pathan, will be in effect from March 12 to March 18 and imposes bans on certain activities that could cause public discomfort or disrupt law and order.
Key Restrictions for Holi Celebrations:
1. Ban on Obscene Language and Songs – Public utterances of obscene words, slogans, or songs will not be permitted. Any person engaging in such acts could face legal action.
2. Prohibition on Offensive Gestures and Symbols – Citizens are forbidden from using inappropriate gestures, mimicking offensive actions, or displaying pictures, placards, or other objects that may be considered indecent, immoral, or offensive to public dignity.
3. No Throwing or Spraying of Colored Water on Pedestrians – To prevent harassment and inconvenience, throwing or spraying colored water, dyes, or powders on people without consent is strictly forbidden.
4. Ban on Water Balloons – The preparation, carrying, and throwing of water-filled balloons, whether plain or coloured, is not allowed in public spaces during the festive period.
The Mumbai Police has stated that these measures are being implemented to ensure peaceful and respectful celebrations. Violators of these rules may face legal action under pertinent sections of the law, reported the Indian Express.
Residents are encouraged to celebrate responsibly, respecting others’ rights and maintaining decorum in public spaces. The police have assured that they will closely monitor public areas and take action against any interruptions.
