An FIR was filed against stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra on Monday morning for making objectionable remarks against Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde. Mumbai Police has filed a case under Section 353(1)(b) (statements inciting unrest) and 356(2) (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
On the other hand, a case has also been filed against 40 Shiv Sena workers of the Shinde faction for vandalizing Kamra’s studio.
A video of Kamra came out on Sunday in which he is singing a song mocking Deputy CM Shinde. After this, the workers of the Shinde faction got angry and vandalized Kamra’s studio ‘The Unicontinental’ in the Khar area of Mumbai.
The comedy club which was vandalized has issued a statement saying that we are closing this club for the time being. We have only given the artist a place to perform. He is completely responsible for his statements but every time we become the target.
Fadnavis said- Kunal Kamra should apologize
Devendra Fadnavis’ statement has come out on the controversy. He said that there is freedom to do stand-up comedy, but no one can say whatever he wants.
Fadnavis said- that Kunal Kamra should apologize, this will not be tolerated. There is a right to comedy, but if it is being done to defame our Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, then it is not right.
Kunal and Rahul Gandhi did not read the Constitution
Fadnavis said- that Kunal Kamra posted the same red Constitution book that Rahul Gandhi had shown. Both did not read the Constitution properly. The Constitution gives us freedom of expression, but it also has its limits.
On Shinde being called a traitor, he said- People supported us by voting in the 2024 assembly elections. Those who betrayed, were sent home by the people. Those who insulted the ideology and mandate of Balasaheb Thackeray were shown their place by the people.

Lyrics of Kunal Kamra’s song, which caused controversy…
Thane’s rickshaw with beard on the face, glasses on the eyes, oh!
Ek Jhalak Dikhalaye Kabhi, Guwahati Me Chhup Jaaye.
If you look at him from my perspective, he looks like a traitor
Rickshaw from Thane, beard on his face, glasses on his eyes.
He is not a minister, he is a turncoat and what can be said, he will make a hole in the hand that feeds him.
He may get a place in Fadnavis’ lap more than a ministry.
He has got a bow and arrow, may my father wish for him.
Taunting Shinde, he is described as a traitor and turncoat
Actually, in the beginning of the song, the look of Deputy CM Eknath Shinde is described. Then it is said that he rebelled against Shiv Sena and went to Guwahati with the MLAs. Apart from this, there is a mention of him driving a rickshaw (auto rickshaw) and being from Thane. Shinde is a resident of Thane and used to drive an auto-rickshaw earlier. At the same time, Shinde is described as a traitor, turncoat and one who sits in Fadnavis’ lap.
Ajit said – one should not go beyond the constitution
In the matter, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said – no one should go beyond the law and constitution. Everyone should say their point within limits. There can be differences in opinions, but it is important to keep in mind that the police should not have to intervene because of their words.
Spokesperson of the Shinde faction said – will treat in Shiv Sena style. Spokesperson of Shinde faction Krishna Hegde said – that Mumbai Police should immediately arrest Kunal Kamra. The use of such words against the Deputy Chief Minister will not be tolerated at all. We will treat in Shiv Sena’s style.
Raut said – that one song offended, Devendra ji is a weak Home Minister. On this entire controversy, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut posted on social media X, that Kunal Kamra is a well-known writer and stand-up comedian. When Kunal wrote a satirical song on Maharashtra politics, the Shinde gang got offended. His people broke Kamra’s studio. Devendra ji, you are a weak Home Minister!
MPs from the Shinde faction said- Kunal will not be allowed to roam around the whole of India Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske said- Kunal Kamra, we will not let you roam around not only Maharashtra but the whole of India. You are commenting on Eknath Shinde after taking money from the UBT faction and Sanjay Raut. We are Shiv Sainiks of Bal Thackeray, if we start chasing you, you will have to run away from India.
