Australia won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after ten years and due to this victory, India missed out on winning the trophy for the fifth consecutive time.
During this entire series, the batting of the Indian team was under question. Especially senior batsmen like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who did not perform as expected.
After the series ended, head coach Gautam Gambhir held a press conference and during this, he gave answers related to the performance of the team and the players.
After the match ended, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar looked angry and without naming anyone, criticized the coaching staff and senior players.
‘Everyone should play domestic cricket’

Rohit and Virat Kohli are disappointed in this series and the talk of their playing domestic cricket was raised by cricket fans as well as former cricketers.
In the five matches of this series, Virat has scored a total of 190 runs in nine innings. This also includes an unbeaten century (100) in the first test.
During the press conference, Gambhir was also asked a question related to domestic cricket and senior players. On this, Gambhir said that all players should play domestic cricket.
Gautam Gambhir said, “I always want all players to play domestic cricket. If you are committed to playing cricket with the red ball, then play domestic cricket. If you do not give importance to domestic cricket, then you will never get the desired results that you want in Test cricket.”
Rohit played three matches in this series and he could not leave any special impact in batting. He scored only 31 runs in five innings of the series and his best score during this period was 10 runs.
Sunil Gavaskar has also reacted to playing domestic cricket.
He said ‘The next match of the Ranji Trophy is on 23 January, I want to see how many players play in it.
‘Did the coaching add any charm?’
After the match, Sunil Gavaskar was discussing with his fellow commentators and during this, his anger could be seen.
Gavaskar said, “There is a saying in cricket that bowlers win matches but I believe that the whole team wins matches. The batsmen performed disappointingly throughout the series and that is why India had to face defeat.”
Without naming Rohit and Virat, Gavaskar said that the big-name batsmen did nothing.
Taking a dig, Gavaskar said that questions should be asked to the coaching staff what have you done to make the match even better?
Sunil Gavaskar said, “When the Australian batsmen were batting, what were our bowlers doing? Here the role of the coaching staff is important. The players are playing on the field in the heat, in such a situation you also have to decide what to do. Just throwing downs will not work.”
Gambhir was asked in the press conference what is your mindset as a coach.
On this, Gambhir said, “Every player knows where his game is because, in the end, it is neither my team nor any player’s team. It is the country’s team. Many good players in our dressing room know how much hunger they have and whether the team can move forward with their contribution.”
“As far as I am concerned, my biggest responsibility is to be honest with everyone. Not to one or two players. If I am honest to one or two players then I am not doing justice to my responsibility.”

‘We had opportunities’
Gautam Gambhir says that he had opportunities to win the series and he is ready to accept the mistake.
Gautam Gambhir said, “It was not that we did not have opportunities in the series. The way we started the series with a win and then drew the pink ball test match. If we had brought a 1-1 draw here, then perhaps the pressure on Australia could have been more.”
Regarding the Sydney Test, Gambhir said, “We took the lead after being all out for 185 and if we had batted well in the second innings, if we had given a target of 250-275 runs, then things might have become difficult.” Gambhir says that it is not right to blame any one department, bowling or batting, if we want to do right in the future, then we have to do better in all departments. Gautam Gambhir’s record as a coach Gautam Gambhir was made the head coach of the Indian team in July 2024. After this, Team India’s performance under his coaching was mixed. After Gambhir became the coach, Team India toured Sri Lanka in August. Here in the ODI series, Sri Lanka created history by defeating India after 27 years and won the series 2-0. This was the first defeat of the team under Gambhir’s coaching. In October, India played a home Test series against New Zealand, and India faced a clean sweep of 2-0. After 12 years, India lost a Test series as a host and this was New Zealand’s first Test series win on Indian soil.
The Bangladesh team toured India between September and October. During this tour, Bangladesh played a series of two Tests and three T20 matches. India white-washed Bangladesh in both the series.
India lost 3-1 in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia and India could not make it to the final of the World Test Championship.
This is the first time that India will not be seen in the final of the World Test Championship. So far, the WTC final has been played twice and India has lost both times.
