On Saturday, several containers exploded at Shahid Rajai Port, Iran’s most advanced port, causing a massive explosion and fire. About 400 people have been injured in this incident. The explosion took place at Shahid Rajai Port located in Bandar Abbas city of Iran.
Local TV channels quoted regional port official Ismail Malekizadeh as saying, “The explosion took place in a part of Shahid Rajai Port and the fire extinguishing operation is underway.”
Four rapid response teams were sent to the spot immediately after the explosion. Shahid Rajai Port, located about 1000 km south of the capital Tehran and 23 km west of Bandar Abbas, is Iran’s most advanced container port. It is located north of the Strait of Hormuz, through which about a fifth of the world’s oil production passes.

The injured are being taken immediately to nearby medical centers. The blast comes at a time when Iran is holding the third round of nuclear talks with the US in Oman, although the cause of the blast is not yet known.
It is worth noting that in 2020 also Shahid Rajai Port was also targeted by a cyber attack, which caused massive chaos in the surrounding areas. According to a Washington Post report, Israel was behind that cyber attack, which was done in response to a cyber attack by Iran.
On Friday, Iran’s Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Araqchi expressed his desire to mediate between the two countries amid increased tension between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack.
