A video of the demonstration went viral on social media, in which people are seen raising slogans and showing posters. In the same video, Waris Pathan was seen wearing a black band, which is believed to be a symbol of protest.

Why was Waris Pathan arrested?

As soon as the namaz ended, the protesters present there raised strong slogans against the Waqf Amendment Bill and registered their protest against the government. The police present on the spot detained several people, including Waris Pathan, to control the situation.

What was the reason behind the protest?

The Muslim community says that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 violates their religious and constitutional rights. The protesters called it a “black law” and demanded the government to withdraw it immediately.

Statement of Waris Pathan

Waris Pathan said about this bill:

“This bill violates Articles 14, 25 and 26 of the Constitution. This is a direct attack on the religious rights of the Muslim society. The BJP does not have a majority in the Lok Sabha, yet they want to pass this bill. If some leaders support this bill, the Muslim society will not forgive them.”

He also said that the government should understand that more than 1 crore people have lodged objections against this bill, so it should be withdrawn immediately.
